Back to School Tips from Our Maryland Therapists

As kids get ready to go back to school, we’re looking back at all the school advice we’ve given over the years. Find links to our school-related content, and important reminders about self care, in this special back-to-school post.

Uh-oh.

Homework is Back.

As a parent, you may be dreading the return to your child’s homework routine. And the piles of parent homework that come home in the backpack or pop up in your inbox. It’s a lot for any parent, and especially for parents with ADHD. But of course, we’ve got a strategy for that! We also have a strategy for helping your child with Eureka math homework specifically. Keep an eye out for that one on the blog in September!

Helping Your Anxious Child Go Back to School

This time of year is a struggle for anxious kids. New routines, responsibilities, and people have them on high alert. That also makes it an excellent time to strengthen coping skills.

Create calming routines and rituals for transition times. Strengthen your child’s growth mindset. And help them bring out their best selves with these strategies from our treatment team.

Thank You for Wearing Your Mask

As a reminder, please wear your mask over nose and mouth when entering our building and offices. COVID-19 transmission risk in Montgomery County remains “high.” We’ve stayed safe by moving sessions online when clients or staff are sick and masking at all times in the office. Let’s keep it up!

Our Maryland Therapists Take You to SPACE

(SPACE treatment, that is.) No, we’re not competing with Elon Musk to privatize space travel. We’re helping Maryland parents reduce their child’s anxiety through an evidence based parenting approach. Sonja Chestnut answers your questions about Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions in this post. Take a look, and consider whether our upcoming SPACE group may be for you.

Don’t Forget the Self Care!

You may have noticed that we’ve been saying this a lot lately. The pandemic forced a reset of daily routines for many families. Personal time and self care became more difficult to attain.

Now schools and workplaces have reopened, but we haven’t added our self care back in. Try these tips from Lakhshmi Nagireddy to create time and space for self care, and to give your mental health a daily boost.
