Four Easy Ways to Check in with Yourself

Caring for a plant

Do you slow down and check in with yourself enough? I know I don’t! In fact, if I look at my calendar it’s hard to imagine finding the time. But if I look more closely, there are moments in there. I could mindfully eat my lunch. Journal while I wait in the school pickup line. Or simply declare a 15-30 minute check in time for myself sometime. Give yourself the gift of time, and cultivate your best, most connected self with these 4 simple steps from Lakhshmi Nagireddy.  Hint: we said “cultivate” for a reason.

SPACE Camp Recap

7 families joined us this month to jump start their journey into SPACE: supportive parenting for anxious childhood emotions. Learning SPACE typically takes 12 weeks. We fast forwarded the journey by fitting the first 5 sessions into a 2 week boot camp. Our SPACE families are now continuing their journeys 1 on 1 with therapists from our team. This format was so successful that we plan to do it again in January.

The Tricks and Treats of ADHD

This fun piece from Sonja Chestnut LCSW-C reminds us that while life with ADHD can be tricky, it comes with a lot of treats too. Read more here.

Connecting with Others (as an adult)

Feeling connected is a basic human need. As children those connections seem easier to make. But you’re an adult now. It has likely gotten harder.

You may have let go of old friendships and be striving to start new ones. You may feel as if adult friendships just haven’t happened for you. And envy the friendships you see around you. It’s easy to forget that connections are something we can build.

If having more (or closer) adult friendships is a goal for you, try taking just one of the actions in this list every week. Keep it up from now until the end of the year, and see where it leads.

Parenting Advice We Hope You Don’t Need

We hope homework time is going smoothly in your house. And that everyone’s healthy. But if not, you’re not alone! Follow our tips for helping your child with homework you don’t understand here. The strategies you learn might also help in other challenging times.

Talking to Your Child About a Loved One’s Cancer

We had a guest contributor join us this month to talk about what to do when you have to break this terrible news. Click here to read her advice and ours on this touchy subject.

Thank you for Wearing Your Mask

As a reminder, please wear your mask over nose and mouth when entering our building and offices. Rates of COVID-19 and flu (our families have had BOTH this month) remain high in our area.

We appreciate your support!

Every month we send a newsletter to hundreds of families on our email list. We don’t want our readers on the blog or social media to miss out! Click here to add your email to the list. (We will NEVER sell or share our list.) Or follow us on Facebook or Twitter to see our content when it is posted.
