The Lesson I Learned in Preschool, and Still Use Today

By Sonja Chestnut LCSW-C

Raising children is HARD. That’s especially true when they show us their most challenging behaviors.

From my days as a preschool teacher to today, this one simple reminder keeps me grounded when my own frustration bubbles up:

Yes, We Are Still Masked

We’ll likely make masking during your therapy session optional soon. (Masks will still be required in the waiting room). But we’re waiting for the transmission rates in Montgomery County to drop from moderate to low. Stay tuned.

It’s Terrible and It’s Temporary

By Robin Brannan LCMFT

This moment in time is truly putting my coping skills to the test. From the pandemic exhaustion we are ALL feeling to supporting my partner through cancer treatment, my 2022 is jam packed with stress.

And of course, stressed parents = stressed kids (and vice versa). Parenting in 2022 is tough stuff! So which of my coping strategies are actually working? I’ll unpack the details for you in this deeply personal post.

And what do I do when nothing works? Take a break. I’ve learned that a little time, space, and stillness can do wonders for my emotional state. Changing my mental/emotional state is often the most important thing for me to do. Even if I haven’t found time to grocery shop in weeks. Seriously… we’re out of everything. But we are not out of our minds… yet.

The First Day Therapy Scaries

By Emily Williams LGPC

When you’re in the therapist chair, it can be tough to remember how scary it feels to come to therapy. I strive every day to not forget.

In fact, it was my own experience as a client that brought me into this career. I’m thankful to the therapist that made therapy comfortable for me. And determined to make my office the happy place of every adult, child, and family that comes through my door (or Zoom).

3 DBT Skills I Use Every Day

By Ahmna Khan LGPC

DBT stands for dialectical behavior therapy. We don’t do the full DBT protocol in our office, but DBT is packed full of skills that we do use. IN this post Ahmna shares how practicing mindfulness, goal setting, and emotional regulation help her stay calm on her busiest days.

Every month we send a newsletter to hundreds of families on our email list. We don’t want our readers on the blog or social media to miss out! Click here to add your email to the list. (We will NEVER sell or share our list.) Or follow us on Facebook or Twitter to see our content when it is posted.

And of course, if you’re looking for Child Therapy, Couples Therapy, Teen Therapy, Family Therapy, or Parenting Support, we can help. We offer Online Therapy in Maryland. And our Kensington office is an easy reach from all over Montgomery County. Book a free consult today!
