Skip the Snow Day Guilt
I wake up on snow days with a mind full of possibilities. I could clean the closet, do my taxes, or spend all day playing with my kids! At the end of the day I usually feel disappointed (in myself) that I didn’t complete any of my grand plans. Here’s my advice for avoiding the same predicament.
Remember that this day is a bonus day at home. Any way you spend it is a plus.
Start the day with self care. Slow down your morning routine. Savor your coffee, take an extra long shower, or stay in your pj’s a little longer than usual. Your body and mind need this and you know you don’t get enough of it.
Write down your ideas for the day, and cross out anything that takes more than 3 hours or can’t be done with kids underfoot.
If there’s more than one thing left on your list, choose one and only one.
If there’s nothing left on your list, your goals are too lofty! Consider whether your top priority task could be broken into smaller steps and choose ONE step to do today.
If each step is too big, enjoy being in the moment today. You have a lot on your plate and you need some time to slow down.
Set a start and end time for your chosen task. Set an alarm on your phone for both.
When the start time comes, choose to do the task or to stay in the moment instead.
Trust that you chose what was best for you at the time, and pat yourself on the back.
