5 Self Care Tips for Working Parents

When you feel yourself slipping into anxiety, anger, or frustration, take a few minutes to bring your better self (and/or your better child) back with the following strategies from Robin Brannan LCMFT.

  1. Savor Your Clean Routine. Use your bath or shower as a time to cleanse emotionally as well.

  2. Use Your Commute to Your Benefit. Recharge with a favorite audiobook or anthem.

  3. Find Your Personal Reset Button. Read our 14 different ideas here.

  4. Reset After Every Rough Patch. A simple hug or laugh is sometimes enough. Try our favorite quick reset here.

  5. Practice Acceptance. Handle things in the moment, then let them go. Remember what is yours to control, and what is not.

Communicate with Clarity: 3 Simple Rules

  1. Speak for yourself…

  2. With others not about them…

  3. And stay curious about the other person’s experience.

Speaking for yourself means sharing your experience and asking for what you want or need. You can follow a formula of “I feel __________ when _________ happens and it would help me if __________.” Or “I would really like to __________ (hang out with my friends this weekend, play tennis tomorrow, buy a house next year, etc.). Can we/you do _________ to help make that happen?” Read our recommendations in greater detail here.
