Navigating the Challenges of the Holiday Season

Tips from our Kensington, Maryland Counselors for November 2021

To Travel or Not to Travel? What to Tell Your Family About Your Choice

The holidays bring lots of opportunities for family conflict. Especially as we all make highly personal choices about managing our COVID risk. Robin Brannan LCMFT shares a strategy for communicating clearly with your family, without escalating the tension. It starts with explaining to your kids.

Note that decisions, especially ones about safety, are very personal.

Explain the values you used to make your decision.

Identify the information that informs your choice.

Encourage your child to support others’ decisions too.

Make the best of the choice you’ve made.

Parent Therapy for Child Anxiety

The existence of this may surprise you. But actually, parenting differently can produce the same results as bringing your child to therapy. Does that mean your child’s anxiety is your fault? Nope!

But anxiety (and ADHD) creates patterns in families that can be counteracted and unlearned. And making those changes produces change in the symptoms themselves. Learn more here.

Parenting While Working at Home

Your kids likely have some days off of school this week. They’re excited, but you’re back to juggling work and parenting. While we trained for this all last year, we still don’t feel like pros. We asked an expert about managing this multitask with grace and ease. Check out her recommendations here.

Every month we send a newsletter to hundreds of families on our email list. We don’t want our readers on the blog or social media to miss out! Click here to add your email to the list. (We will NEVER sell or share our list.) Or follow us on Facebook or Twitter to see our content when it is posted.

And of course, if you’re looking for Child Therapy, Couples Therapy, Teen Therapy, Family Therapy, or Parenting Support, we can help. We offer Online Therapy in Maryland. And our Kensington office is an easy reach from all over Montgomery County. Book a free consult today!
