Looking for a Child Psychologist in Maryland? Try a Family Therapist instead.

Many families don’t think to contact a Family Therapist to address the needs of their child.   However, family is the context in which your child learns and grows.   Much of his social and emotional development is happening in his relationship with you, making you the #1 most powerful tool for behavioral change.   When you see a Family Therapist you’ll never be blamed for the challenges your child is having, and you’ll always be given the opportunity to be part of the solution.

By the time you’re choosing therapy for your child you’ve probably gotten frustrated or angry, run out of strategies to try, and found yourself fighting far more parenting battles that you ever thought you would.   A well trained Family Therapist knows how to put you and your child back on the same team.  Strengthening your relationship is a primary goal of treatment.    A Family Therapist will also be on the lookout for ways to get you and your coparent back on the same page, whether or not you’re together.

Family Therapists are well trained to treat individuals, couples, and families because experience in all 3 is a requirement to obtain a Masters degree in the field.   This is not true for degrees in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work.   While your child’s Psychologist, Counselor, or Social Worker may have put in time and effort beyond the degree program to learn to work with families, you’ll have to ask to find out.  When you find one of these professionals working in our practice, you’ll know that we’ve done the asking for you.  We only hire clinicians with strong family therapy skills.
