This group is for parents who would like to focus on boosting their child’s Executive Function. It meets online via videoconference for 4 one hour sessions. We choose our meeting times based on participants’ schedules, so this one may fit easily into your busy parenting life! Each group is limited to 6 participants. Not sure what Executive Function is? These short term groups serve children and adolescents who need a boost in their self confidence. In a series of four 1-hour sessions, students identify key strengths that help them face challenges at school, at home, and with friends, and begin to see themselves as truly capable. Refresher sessions may be offered periodically for students that have participated in the 4 week group.
Our Parenting Book Clubs are supportive groups of parents who gather to discuss a parenting book they are reading. Book Club meetings may be facilitated by our staff or by professional colleagues. They are not therapy groups. Some in-person clubs offer a therapeutic playgroup for preschoolers at the same time to address child care needs. Our next book club will meet at 7:30pm on April 22nd to discuss Behave by Robert Sapolsky. This meeting will be facilitated by Sarah Wayland of Guiding Exceptional Parents, LLC. We are exploring the idea of creating an ongoing book club via a private Facebook group or online classroom, so let us know if you are interested.
Superhero Club is a special Self Esteem Booster Group for children who have a lot of energy and not much self restraint. These children often hear “stop that” as the adults in their lives try to teach them self control. In Superhero Club, they identify their personal “superpowers” (lightning speed, giggle power, super strength, etc.) and learn skills to control when, where, and how they use them. This group happens at schools during the school day, so contact us if you’d like to start one! They can be sponsored by the PTA or school, or families can pay directly for the club as they would any other school activity.
Would you and your friends like to grow together? We can create a group just for you, in our office, at your school, or somewhere else! Common themes include “I am NOT my mother: parenting when you don’t want to repeat your parents’ mistakes,” helping children transition to school/middle school/high school/college, stress management, and couples communication.
